Sihanoukville Cambodia: Banks

Cambodian riel (R) is the official tender, but US dollars are the de facto currency in Sihanouk Ville. Most hotels, restaurants, bars, tour operators, etc. set their prices in US dollars. It is best to carry at least some small Cambodian riel for motodups and small purchases. exchange of less than one dollar is given in Cambodian riel.

Sihanouk Ville now has a few of ATMs with international access. Located: 1) downtown at ANZ Royal Bank; 2) Ocean Mart next to the CCS Hotel near the Golden Lions; 3) At the Golden Sand Hotel on Ochheuteal Beach; 4) At the Holiday Palace Hotel on Victory Beach.

Credit cards are accepted at a couple of places, but all charge interest on charges. In addition to most of the banks, Ana Internet offers currency/travelers cheque exchange and Visa and MasterCard advances.

When accepting change or changing money, do not take torn US dollars. Though damaged Cambodian money is generally accepted, even a tiny tear in a large US note makes it nearly impossible to pass.
