 Well
after dark, Street 51 is the
place to be. Anchored by the famous
Walkabout
Hotel,
Shanghai and the Heart of Darkness bar, nearly a
dozen bars and clubs and a couple of hotels are concentrated into a
few blocks along Street 51. The Walkabout Hotel Bar and
Restaurant is open 24/7 and a couple of other places open early,
but most don’t open until the early evening, and by midnight the
street is a flurry of bar hopping activity, especially on the
weekends. A few places stay open till sunrise. Most bars on 51 sport
pool tables and music and their own unique atmospheres...the Heart
of Darkness with DJ’d music and dancing till late; the very popular
Shanghai and other hostess bars; the famous Walkabout with a
sports bar atmospheres; individual little ‘neighborhood bars’ l.
For late night munchies check out the food carts opposite Howie
Bar selling burgers, hot dogs, fries and other snacks until at
least 4:00AM and don’t forget that the Walkabout Hotel
restaurant has a 24 hour menu.
